The wonderful man passed away in 1968, leaving behind an unbelievable legacy that has been remembered and memorialized in surfing hotspots throughout the Pacific.  A mentor to many and an inspiration to many more, Duke Kahanamoku has been forever memorialized in his statue that beckons to tourists and all visitors to Waikiki.  The statues’ outstretched arms welcome people to the beach and often times are covered and draped with lei and other floral gifts.  Kahanamoku’s smiling face is pleasant and reminiscent of the man who changed Hawaii forever.  For all people on vacation in Waikiki and on Oahu, a visit to Waikiki Beach and the historic Kahanamoku’s statue is an absolute must.

Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii and is located on the island of Hawaii.  The largest city in the state, Honolulu also acts as a hub for government, transportation, commerce, culture, and technology for the state.  Best known for the world-renown Waikiki Beach, Honolulu is a prosperous city that has been developed into a commercial and residential home and destination.

In Hawaiian, Honolulu means “sheltered bay” or “peace of shelter,” and relate to the city’s humble beginnings as a gathering place for people from across the state.  Homes in Honolulu are some of the most convenient places to live.  Not only are the beaches of Waikiki and Oahu’s south shore just a few minutes away but the spectacular vistas of the North Shore’s gorgeous white sand beaches are just a half hour drive north.  Honolulu’s position as an arts and entertainment hub adds to the area’s natural attraction.  A thriving nightlife concentrates around the downtown Honolulu and touristy Waikiki areas.  Street entertainers, vibrant clubs and bars, and exquisite restaurants featuring Pacific and Asian fusion cuisine are the norm for
Honolulu’s main thoroughfares.  Living in the midst of this non-stop action and adventure is a hard privilege to earn but is definitely worth the effort
